 Job Summary:

Borg Compressed Steel in Tulsa, OK is seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy machinery used in scrap metal processing. This includes excavators, material handlers, loaders, and other hydraulic and diesel-powered equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on heavy equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates efficiently and safely.
  • Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, and other system failures.
  • Weld and fabricate parts as needed for equipment repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while working on equipment.
  • Work with operators to understand and address mechanical issues.
  • Perform emergency repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
 

Heavy Equipment & Truck Shop Manager

Job Summary:

Borg Compressed Steel in Tulsa, OK is seeking an experienced, hands-on Heavy Equipment & Truck Shop Manager to join our team . In this full-time leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our shop, ensuring the optimal performance of our fleet of trucks and heavy equipment, including mobile material handlers, loaders, and forklifts. You will lead a skilled team of technicians, driving operational efficiency, reducing downtime, and managing costs to support the success of the business.

As the Shop Manager, you will be the key decision-maker in shop operations, from coordinating repairs and maintenance schedules to handling vendor relationships and ensuring strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. You will help shape the direction of our operations while maintaining a focus on quality, productivity, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the heavy equipment and truck shop.
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and excellence.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all trucks and heavy equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Ensure safe work practices and adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and parts sourcing.
  • Monitor and manage shop budgets, controlling costs while ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues, providing hands-on solutions as needed.
  • Evaluate and improve shop processes to enhance productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a heavy equipment or fleet management environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of driving results.
  • In-depth mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience with heavy equipment and trucks (material handlers, loaders, forklifts, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with staff, customers, and third-party vendors.
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving abilities to streamline operations and minimize downtime.
  • Previous experience in a managerial role, overseeing technical teams.
